Ecce - Control EP
Ecce is the recording pseudonym of london-based musician and machinist Nicholas Lisher. After his music caught the ear of
ex-Cure keyboardist Roger O'Donnell, a couple of instrumental Ecce tracks were released on O'Donnell's "Nothing Concrete"
99x/10 label sampler. New tracks followed, as did live dates across London, and Nicholas' songwriting began to combine his
earthy vocals with the synth and guitar sounds, finding a new middle ground between shoegaze-inspired rock and the robotic
elements of electronica and krautrock.
His debut EP on the Tirk sister label August Day features three of Ecce's finest works. 'Control' morphs from uptempo
krautrock into 21st century shoegaze. 'I Could Spend A Lifetime Here' and 'Transient Signs' combine ethereal synthesizer
flourishes with quiet/loud dynamics and cacophonous guitar noise. Techno producer and Kompakt favourite Justus Köhncke
may at first seem like a strange choice for a remix on the 12", however the German is multi-faceted and here turns in
an 80's infused synth remix with generous helpings of both distortion and contortion. Anyone familiar with his remixes
of Human League, Hiem and Friendly Fires would immediately feel right at home upon listening.
